I’ve been seeing more and more of these on the road, and I have to say I think it’s a step back in design for Audi.
Seems to have a fatter face and lower hang... Always makes me think of a Ford Edge when I see one.
Now, the previous Q7 looks like a large, high-riding imposing vehicle. Nice curves, good lines, and whatnot.
Oh yeah.
But now this... Which just looks incredible watered down. Almost looks like it should be sold as a VW.
Also: the more important complaint... No S3 hatchback in the the US. Not that I could ever afford it, mind you, I’d just like to see one someday.

The new ones just look so terrible. How did anyone think it was a good idea.

New German car design is just so “meh” to me. There’s nothing out there that really grabs me from Ze Germans. People criticize Lexus, but damn, at least they’re trying. And in my opinion, they’ve succeeded. They make some actually interesting, and dare I say it, pretty, luxury cars.
Cadillac, Jag, Hyundai/Kia, Infiniti, basically all the non-German luxury brands all are in the same boat. They’re making luxury cars that aren’t completely insipid and boring. While the Germans seem to be going in the opposite direction.

That’s how I feel about the Audi Q2. No bueno. I haven’t seen one in person, but I feel like it’s the type of car designed for someone with an active dynamic lifestyle . Ugggghhhhhhhhh

I was actually behind one of these for a few miles the other day and somewhere around the third red light I finally realized it was the new Q7. It was so boring I didn’t even notice it was new or expensive or anything more exotic than the Kia Sedona in the other lane.

I’m in the way minority here, but I think the new Q7 is a significant improvement. The old one just looks like a blob.

The fact that there is such a hard shoulder/trim line on the rear hatch and then the high-line on taillights completely ignores it just destroys the good parts of the rear design for me. I hate lines-for-lines-sake and curves-for-curves-sake in car design.

I love the old Q7 and I like the new Q7.
I actually don’t like many audis (the current A4, A5 and their S siblings are less interesting than a Camry to me, as is the R8) but the Q7 I think is pretty.
I just think the older one had a more unique and thought-out rear end. The new Q7's rear end is an afterthought, looks quite generic.
I do agree the older one was more imposing overall. It looked more like a large SUV than a jacked up station wagon.

I absolutely love the old Q7. Especially in S-line trim

I’m right there with you. The first one looked like they didn’t know if they wanted to make a van or suv

Yep. This one looks nicely sculpted and defined. While I don’t think it’s beautiful or anything, I can’t figure out why anybody thinks this is such a huge step back.

Oddly, I much prefer the looks of the A3 sedan than the hatch.

It’s definitely going in a better direction
